1996 Jetta VR6- Problems!
Just Purchased this car a week ago. Changed oil to Mobil 5w50... 3 days later oil light came on with a very ittitating beeping sound. No leaks. Checked the oil and looks fine. Now changing it to 5w40 to see if that helps. Any suggestions? As soon as you turn the car off and back on the light and sound stays off until it is reved over 2 grand. Used code reader and no codes that pertain to the oil problems. I am a bit worried because the warning light and beep make it seem like you must pull over now because your car might blow up! I am also wondering what the oil capacity is for this car? Open to any suggestions!
Thank-you

Not to sure on the capacity of that size and year engine. You should refer to a owners manual for oil type and amount and ALWAYS check the level in your dipstick. VW highly recommends the use of synthetic oil in there motors. I have a '03 1.8t, I just changed my oil and it called for four quarts, yours might be 5, again, check your documentation and dipstick.
For my engine it requires 5w40 or 5w30 if the former is not available. I used Mobile 1 full synthetic 5w30. Depending on where you live you may want to adjust the weight of your oil. The light and beeping sound your recieving would be your oil pressure indicator. Its not a direct indecator of oil levels how ever if you pressure is low of course not enough oil would trigger that. CHECK your levels. Make sure there is not too much oil other wise you will create too much pressure and could cause some serious damage to you sweet ride. Not sure if the oil thickness would effect oil pressure issue, however I bought mine use and it had 10w30. I switch it over and instantly noticed an increase in performance.
