Default 1984 Air Filter. Where is it?

I just got the car and I can't find the air filter. I'm certain it needs to be replaced..

umm.... if you have fuel injected engine it should be attached to a very large black hose on the left or right side of the engine, if you have a carburated engine it should be right on top of the carburator in the middle of your engine

thank you! I'll look in the morning.. Also, I think it's a carborator, but it's doing this weird sputtering thing in 3rd gear. Any ideas?
