'02 1.8t issues!
Recently bought a '02 VW Jetta 1.8T. I have already had to replace coil packs and spark plugs. I then drive it couple hundred miles and then I get a SES light. I pull the code, Intake camshaft over-retarded. I reset the battery and it drives fine w/out a light for another couple hundred miles and it comes back on. I then see the oil pressure light come on and it blinks and buzzes until i pull over. Oil level is fine however it is still going off. I change the oil and put in Lucas Full Synthetic 10-30w w/ a K&N Oil Filter. Car drives fine for 50 miles or so & the Oil Pressure light comes on again and now it stays on constantly. When I first start the car I can drive w/out coming on until I reach a stoplight or stopsign then once I go again it immediatly comes on. nO NOTICEABLE LOSS OF POWER OR ANY DRIVING ISSUES JUST THE LIGHT......... HELP!
Despite popular belief, some times you can purchase a
product thats too good, Try replacing the K&N oil filter with
a regular low cost one. Sounds like the filter is filtering too
well for your engine and cutting down the oil pressure. We
found this same problem in drag racing. Filtering well is great
for long life, however if the filter is too good and killing the
pressure it's doing more damage than a cheepie would. Also
if your in a warm area like the southern states that 10w-30
isn't heavy enough for a 4 cyl engine, if so go to 20w-50.
