Default Vacuum hose help

Hi All,

During my last oil change, I noticed something strange. One of the rubber hoses (vacuum?) on the dashboard side of the engine compartment was not attached to anything. I've never noticed this before and none of the mechanics (including dealer) who have worked on the car have ever said anything about this.

I looked all around and could find nothing that looked like a fitting for this hose. A buddy who has a lot of experience with engines also looked and couldn't find anything.

This is a 2001 TDI. It's running fine. I experimented with plugging it while idling, etc. and noticed no change. Should I leave it alone?

Any advice/help is appreciated.

it hooks up to the air filter box (lid), just below the air intake tube that runs from the air box and intake.
In car position it would be to the rear of the lid (towards driver).

Thanks, michjetta!

For the life of us, my friend and I couldn't find that hook up. Thanks for your help!

By the way, is that connection pretty important? Should I expect anything to run better now that it is connected?

Thanks again,

jd
