Default Timing belt of chain??? Chilton is confusing.

People, (oops- should have said timing belt OR chain in title)

I gotta look into replacing timing belt, if my car has one, OR does it have a chain?? Im confused, as I went to library and only manual there was Chilton's import manual, and it stinks- had only a hundred pages , and it didnt show any belt, but had some diagrams showing a chain at the other end of engine!

So, do I have a belt, or a chain? It did, though, "talk" of a belt, although no picture/diagram, and it talked of a chain at the rear of the engine (I have a straight 4, right??) (I have a 1.8L T type. )

Thanks!
