ticking noise when accelerating
I have a 2001 gti vr6. 130,000 miles. I always keep up with oil changes and never beat on my car. About a year ago i noticed a faint clicking noise when accelerating. As the year progressed it got louder and now seems to be getting worse yet again. It usually occurs when the RPM's are between 2-3000, and goes away once i shift into the next gear, only to occur again when the RPMs climb. It does this while revving in neutral also. Ive had several people look at it but with no luck as to determining what it might be. It seems to be coming from inside the engine. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to the forum.
Well if you can hear this clicking noise whilst its standing can you ascertain which area of the engine is making this noise? You will get a ticking from the injectors but you won't hear that while your driving but thats normal. Obviously if you hear it while your not moving it isn't something on the driveshafts that is catching.
Use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope to pin point the noise.

Thanks for the welcome! I had a friend rev the engine in neutral while i tried to pinpoint the location of the noise and it seemed to be coming from the rear-middle of the engine, somewhere rather inaccessible to me. And no, it does not make the noise in idle, only when depressing the accelerator, and when the rpm's climb above 2000. Quite strange.
