Default looking at GTI please help.

hello,
I am looking at a 1992 vw golf gti and am wondering what i shoulc pay close attention too apon viewing it in person. it is the 1.8l 8v not the 16v. I know that electrical problems were big with these cars. it does have alot of new parts like a timing belt brakes rear tires shocks and on. I am wondering what to offer if i do go look at it, Owner is asking 1150 but i think he will go down.
ahh it has 219k on it

yeah well millage does not bug me as long as it is solid and cared for. My father had 350+thousand miles on his old 85? jetta before he sold it to some kid. and it was in good running order but you could feel the loss in power from the rings wereing out. Still his was the 8v and was one great motor. my dad owned it since new and cared for it well still had the original clutch even. Anyways i have an update. The person selling it lowered the price down to 800acause he said it is going to need a new clutch soon. Which is no worry to me. And if the motor starts to go it would be a great time for a 16v swap.
Thanks and any input would be great!

yeah, if youre gonna be workin on it yourself i say go for it, things are gonna go wrong with that mileage but as long as you can stay on top of them and repair stuff yourself it shouldnt be bad. just wouldnt want to buy something to put it in the shop twice a month starts adding up real quick and its why none of my cars have seen shops, all work done myself to save money at first and became a good hobby later on.
