I recently bought a 03 Gti 1.8. I was driving home, then i slowly started to slow down. I pulled off to the side of the road I tried to start it up again, and it was just making a weird noise. When i turn the key it just makes a type of humming noise and thats it. When It happened there was no noise or vibration, the engine just stopped. Ive been told it could be either the timing belt or the transmission. Anybody know what could be wrong?

 

Could be the timing off.

Or a fuel system failure, or electrical.
