Default GTi Wheel Fell off

Hi All,

My brother recently bought a second hand Golf GTi 1.9T (2000) and whilst coming to a stop on a slip road the front passenger side wheel fell off, the wheel has been on the car since December so this was rather unexpected. All bolts fell out and we found all of them near the car. One will not screw back in so I assume the thread on the wheel hub was damaged whereas the others screw back in fine. I do not know the cause of this and it seems strange to me that they all fell out at the same time...

What I was hoping someone could tell me is can he trust that wheel hub short term or will it need replacing immediately? Are there any checks I can do or precautions I can take? I've replaced the bolts with new ones for the time being.

Thanks - Trev

That is very strange. I would replace the wheel hub and while it is off check the wheel bearing.

Ok, sounds like a plan, I was going to pop down the scrapyard and get a complete hub assembly with bearing, for the sake of a few quid it's worth changing the lot at the same time.

Cheers - Trev
