Default first car and bolton's on a vr6

im starting to look for my first car. I have always wanted a civic si but everyone has one and I want to be differentand havealways loved vw's and so I was thinkingthe gti. But mostly all thegti's I find have like 80000 to 130000 miles do they still have alot of life left in them like to 200000 or 250000miles. and also the I think 1998 or 98to 2001 have a electrcial problem is this true. and for the last question how much extra powerwould a 1997-2003 gti vr6 make with i/h/e?

well, if you go vr6, the intial power and torque will get you through the hard times my friend. but if you add intake headers exhuast, expect some return, maybe 5 from intake, 5 from exhaust and i dunno bout headers. but you're starting off with some power anyways so ya know. you could always go 1.8t where the bolt ons bring much much more power. something ridiculous from what some people say. so whatever you get, as long as the maintanance is there, the car will last a long while. i had a 99 jetta before my gti that had 185000 miles on it and all id ever done was a heater coil. so, yea.

1.8t is the engine I really want because its alot easyer to make more power. but I was thinking that the 1.8t is not as good of a engine as the vr6. and it would not be as relible as the vr6 to. but what do you think? and how much power would you make if you got a 1.8t and brought the boost up to 20psi and full exhaust and intake?

i mean it depends on the year. pre 2002.5 you have the 150 hp engine. so with that...wel youd be like 180-190 polly? but at 20 psi, thats when the reliabity is an issue. youd need alot more work. but post 2002.5 you have the 180 hp 1.8t. which with those mods you say youd be around 210 plus pretty easy. but again reliability at 20 psi falls flat on its face without more engine changes. id say, 180hp 1.8t plus exhaust and intake, well really, that will be like 14 for intake, and 10 for exhaust. so right there you're doin better than 200ho. but vr6 are the sex, bototm line for sound and full power band.

idn but my friend has a 2000 or 2001 and heis running 20-25 psi on a stock motor he has intake and exhaust. well what would be safe to boost at because dont they have like 12 or 15 psi stock. and I agree the vr6 sound like sex. and what aboutreliability. sorry for the spelling error.

My VR6 has had 2 problems...coil pack, and o2 sensors, that's it. If you keep up on the regular maintenance of the vehicle then it will last. I like the VR6 because 200HP stock, after mods it really opens up, NA motor which I like but could also be turbo after replacement of stock internals. VR6 has much more to offer than 1.8T..again just another man's opinion.
