My 2001 TDI new beetle has a trans problem. It takes off and shifts to 2nd fine , but when it shifts to 3rd it is like it is in neutral. It has 97000 miles on it with no fluid change. It is an o1m tranny. Can the fluid or valve body cause this or do I need a new transmission. Any suggestions appreciated.

 

Sounds like you lost a gear. Seems you're gonna have to go in for surgery. Take it to a trans shop and have it checked out. Make them show you whats wrong before doing anything.

changing fluid definetly can make a big difference, i don't know if dirty fuild would cause you to entirely loose a gear. but it can definetly mess up your shift points and things like that
