Weird front-end noise
Hello all,
I have a 2004 Golf, 85K miles and there has been an increasingly loud noise coming from the front-end. The noise sounds like tire tread, and increases at higher speeds. There is no drastic pull towards either side in the steering. I originally thought that the wheel bearing(s) might need to be replaced, but the noise doesn't increase as I turn but only with increased speed. I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the wheel bearing was the kind that needs to be pressed in or if i could be swapped out easily. Also, how much I can expect to pay for such a replacement. I'm okay with fixing minor replacements myself but am unable to do pressing, etc.
Also, the car has had a periodic transmission slip since 40k miles. It doesn't occur all the time (mostly when its damp and raining) but non-the-less its annoying. I'm trying to decide whether to fix it or sell it while it still has value with 85k miles. Any suggestion or information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
