Default transmission issues Help.

I just my mk3 96 5spd from this girl , she gave me the car because she didnt want to deal with it. The problem
its very hard to put it in gear, it grinds going into reverse.
can some one tell me how to check tranny fluid level, and how to adjust the clutch. i want to check that before replacing the tranny or replace the clutch and trow out baring.

It sounds like you may need a new clutch assembly fitting, its not adjustable. You could try bleeding the hydraulics first just to make sure there is no air in the system.

You don't say which model you have exactly only a 96 mk3 Golf. There should be a filler and oil level plug on the side of the gearbox where you fill it up until it runs out.
