I own a 1996 golf gl, and I recently replaced the stock radio with a jvc deck. My new deck worked perfectly, but my starter blew one day and I needed a new one. After I had the new starter installed, my deck stopped working. I re-did all the wiring, double checked everything, but it just wasnt receiving any power. Tonight, when turning my car off, I noticed that for one instant the CD deck got power. Upon further investigation, when I have my key in one very specific spot between turning the car on and taking the key out, my cd deck gets power and the radio works fine. Once i move the key, however, it goes dead and nothing works. I have no idea what the problem is .. can anybody offer advice / suggestions ??

do you have wipers or ac or did the stop working too?
you can roll the key back just a little and things should work
i see them go bad all the time in fact i had to put one in my brothers boxter last week for this same problem

 

is a key switch something I have to have installed at the dealership? or is it something I can do? do you know how expensive it is?

you need to take the steering wheel off and the air bag
take it to a shop that works on volkswagens
2 hour job not to much in $$$$
