Default Starting Problem 88 Golf Gl

This is so weird. Sometimes the car starts fine, other times I turn the key and nothing happens (it doesnt crank), there is plenty of juice, the batterie is fully charged, If i put jumper cables on it it will crank and start up. There is a short in the seat belt switch that dissables the starter, but if i giggle the belt the light turns off and it will start, but i think that is a separate issue.

so basicaly what happens is it wont turn over (sometimes) the only way to make it turn over is by connecting jumper cables to it, THE BATTERIE IS FULLY CHARGED.

My Therie Could there be a corroded connection from the batterie to the starter that is basicaly causing resistance and but connecting jumpers from another car that provides enough juice to get the connectiong right? that doesnt explain why sometimes it does start just fine.

Could i straight wire the starter to the batterie and just put a toggle switch in the cab so when i want to start the car I turn the key on and flip the toggle switch, Can i directly connect the starter to the batterie without burning out the starter?

If a VW is very low on fuel or oil is there some sort of starter turn off? that will not alow the starter to turn over, just like if the seat belts where not buckled?
