Default Lights turn on randomly

Hello,

I am having a VW Golf4 from 2001, no computer.

The interior lights turn on randomly from time to time. I also noticed that sometimes, trying to lock the doors already locked cause the interior lights to flash and sometimes to remain on.

I need to manually turn off the interior lighting in order to prevent battery draining.

Any idea why? A friend of mine told me it could be the software.

Thanks.

Well of a Golf without a computer system the interior lights are switched on and off by the door switches earthing out the interior light circuit. Check the condition and function of these switches with a multimeter.

I am a very beginner. Could you please tell me where the switches are located ? Maybe a scheme and component name in case I need to change them ?

Thanks in advance.

I'm guessing the switch looks something like this.

Open the door and look around the door aperture. As you open and close the door the door pushes on the switch.
