I've just joined the forum as I'm about to buy a MK5 Golf but I don't know whether to go for a petrol 1.4 or 1.6 engine?


Originally I was going to get a 1.4 because I'm 19 and anything higher sends my insurance through the roof! However, I was told that Golf 1.4's aren't very good because they're quite heavy hatchbacks so you need at least the 1.6.


How true is this and which one would people recommend?


Also, will higher mileage of 95,000+ on a MK5 Golf effect it's performance much?
