I have an early 1999 manufacture Golf III with a cruise control problem. Oddly, it works only 1 in 10 times that I try to engage. Someone suggested replacing the 5 amp fuse as a possible fix. This fuse is not in the under dash fuse bank, can someone tell me where in the engine bay the fuse is located or give me a clue as to the source of the problem. Also been told that the VW cruise control is usually the first thing to fail and not worth the high expense to replace the control unit, $ 500.00 quoted by local VW dealership. any thoughts on this??
