Default Cv joint??

Hey, so when ever i'm driving my 98 Gl golf there has been an almost "knocking" in the front left, a friend of mine who rebuilt a Jetta of the same year said it might be the cv joint. Another friend who owns the same golf i do said the same thing.

Had my friend (who rebuilt the jetta) take a look while my car was up a while ago and he said it didn't look like the joints were in bad condition.

Any one know if it might be something else??

Thank you in advance for reading!

tl;dr

Front left of my 98 golf makes a knocking noise when driving. Noise is consistent with the speed the car is going.

Is either CV joint or the strut. Is the strut leaking??

Its absolutely not that good of an idea if you are running a car around with a very noisy cv joint, if that's the case. A cv joint can fail spectacularly, in which case your wheel is free to turn every which way.
