I've got a 96 golf 2.0 automatic, seems to be driving just fine, I can start the car up in park place it in reverse neutral and drive it around, but the second I put it back in park the whole thing just shuts off, and the power goes out as well.
not causing me any problems at the moment because I'm usually ready to turn off the car when I put it in park, would like to figure it out in case the problem gets worse.
any ideas out there? thanks guys.

 

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.
