8v block, conrods and crank, everything else 16v including the car.... will it work??? PLEASE HELPPL

Basically I put a hole in my 16v 1988 MK2block and funked it along with the crank. I then inexperiencedly bought a 8v block as I thought it would be the same. The 8v block does not have the oil jets as the 16v, the rods and pistons are different, there is not a breather hole on the 8v as there is on the 16v, however there is a blanked off hole but not the same fit as the 16v. So far all the bits fit, the rod that drives the oil pump (Iâ€™m sure this has a proper name) as these are different sizes, the clutch fits, every other bolt hole on the block is identical.........does anyone know why this wouldnâ€™t work????? P.S. My old boy is helping me and he's an aircraft mechanic so he'll be doing most of the work, so it will run again, i hope. He suggested I came on here and asked if there was anything obvious to watch out for......any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, well in advance
