Default 08 Rabbit multiple lights on dash

Hi, new to the forums. Yesterday when I started my 08 rabbit the battery light was on. The car had sat for 3 days so I thought maybe a bit of rust build up on the contacts where it had been raining those 3 days....the next day I start it up and the battery light is still on as well as the traction control, abs, and airbag lights and I gave the car a quick drive and upon returning home shut it off and it will not start.....can anyone tell me if the lights are on because of low voltage in the battery no doubt cause by a failing alternator? Or is the is some other know issue that causes this....also I have a brand new alternator from my 03 jetta TDI, will this altenator fit my 08 rabbit? Thanks for any help.

Check and clean all connections. If the Jetta alternator is physically the same size with the same terminal connections it should work.
