i have a 1996 volkswagen cabrio. i am tryin to find out what motors will fit an what you recommend i want it to be fastt. also it is automatic i want to convert it to manual. your help is appreciated.

 

The Mk4s will fit your car as in 99-04 Easy fit.. And yes the Gl is the base model then it goes to Gls to GLX to Vr6

 

If you are referring to a GLX engine, I believe that's a VR6...major work to fit that. I would recommend a 2.0 ABA swap...there are some reasonable performance mods you can make to that engine for a reliable 150hp and the swap is not too laborious. You could go 1.8T or 2.0T but those are exponentially more expensive to do
