Power Window only works with key
Here are the details:
Drivers side front window only works (goes up & down) with the key in door method.
No other switches in the car will operate the front drivers window.
All other windows/ switches work 100%.
The drivers side door power window switch works on the passenger window.
I've had it checked out by a mechanic and they don't know what's wrong... because:
They've tested the drivers side window switch- "it works"
They've tested the wires between the switch and the motor; at different points- "all good"
They connected a different window motor (from '97 jetta) to the connection- "same problem"
Could this be a problem with the cars "brain"/ master computer?
(I didn't imagine that the brain would have a reason to interact with the window, but...?
So,
VW Peep's, what's your best guess?

Welcome to the forum.
You need to get your motor scanned for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them.

Thank you for your insight!
I requested this of the mechanic but I guess they're too busy to do it t'day. Since I need the car for the next week, it'll have to wait.
I will make sure to reply with the outcome of the ECU scan as soon as it happens.
I'll also make sure to post the final outcome (I hate it when people don't).
Thanks again!

Working on it!
I have a exactly same problem on 1999 passat 1.8t manual trans.
Windows works with key test 4 windows
Lock switch works on master windows switch but windows dont.
I found short to ccm's ground(under driver seat)
2 wires brown/red 1 comes from back relay panel
another from driver door wiring harness. But only single brown/red goes to ccm i need to find and check wiring diagrams for sure.
they were shorting the ground at the same location(underdriver seat carpet) made a lot green residue and Dtc's on ecu and ccm was fried.
Today able to remove whole carpet for dry it out and find water get inside issue some kind of solution for the future)
So not able to check wiring diagram yet probably tomorrow or sunday will find out.
Check if your sunroof works? and sunwisors lights .

When I bought my 2003 Jetta one of the problems it had was that the passenger side front window was intermittent. It turned out to be a mechanical switch issue. I replaced the entire master control assembly in the drivers door and now all windows work.
