Hey, my friend has a 2002 cabrio, and it has some electrical problems. Periodically, the instrument panel will not work, or the rpm and spedo will jump all over the place, the fuel guage won't work, or really anything else like that. Also, the lights will sometimes not work. It also has the check engine light on, though i haven't had a chance to pull the codes yet. It runs and drives fine. My guess is a short somewhere, but i'm not sure where, i'm not very familiar with VW's.

If anyone has a suggestion on where to start, it would be greatly appriciated. Thanks much.

Luckily I haven't had this problem, but that being said the passenger side door lock, and fob just stopped working one day. I checked the fuses but found nothing blown.
