Question Keeps shutting off, why???

Hello VW fans glad I found this forum, I have a 74 super beetle starts up then stalls out unless I give it gas, it's only on its 2nd oil change since the new motor, when in gear it will not go unless I got it reved up pretty good. Anyone got an idea or two of what may be the problem ? Thanks

Default 68 doing the same thing

This doesn't help answer your question, but my 68 is doing the same thing. For me it seems that the automatic choke is not holding the accelerator. I had my friend press the gas while i went to the back of the car and manually put the choke down and let the accelerator rest on it. This worked fine, but obviously I can't do this all the time. If anyone has any ideas on how to solve this idle problem it will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Mike
