Engine Knock
Hello,
I have a 1999 beetle 2.0. Runs and starts great. I am getting air blowing out of the oil filler cap. No smoke with it just air...seems like more than normal to me. Try to pour oil in the car with it running and it blows it back at you??? Is this normal for this 2.0 engine?? I am also getting a faint knock which sounds like it is coming from the engine just behind the firewall on the passenger side. It only knock after driving the car some distance...fully warmed up I suppose. give it some throttle and sometimes it goes away all together??? It is not a lifter tap but for sure some kind of knock deep inside the engine. Sounds like it is coming from lower portion of the engine?? Any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks EB

RE: Engine Knock
The extra air sounds like blow-by just from worn piston rings, not really a big issues, depending on how much is coming out. It's actually a fine oil mist...shouldn't be just air.
uhh don't put oil in the car while it's running. Turn it off, top it up, crank it over for a few, turn it off and check it.
