electrical issues on my 73 beetle

ok i got a type 1 vw reg beettle. im having problems because i can get a power to my coil to get a spark. but i have power to my altermator i also have power to where i turn my key but none to my coil. how do i fix or how much will the fix cost me

If your coil isn't getting power, then either your key switch has a problem, fuse blown, or wire shorted (which usually blows a fuse).

As soon as you turn the key to the on position, +12 should go to the coil. If not, check the fuses. Otherwise, trace the + wire to the coil. Also try taking off the + wire from the coil and see if you can get voltage on that side of the wire with it not connected to the coil. If so, possibly could be a bad coil, or something hooked up wrong.
