Default Dead Engine

I got my -69 Beetle out of the shop today with new oil in the engine. I have to climb 3500 ft. in 16 miles to get home. On the way up, the oil light came on briefly. I downshifted & it went out. Within three miles of home the light came on again & I lost power. By the time I downshifted & pulled to the side of the road, the engine died. I trailered it home & when cold the oil level checked fine. The engine turned over but wouldn't start. I'll troubleshoot tomorrow but would like to know how many ways are there to get the oil light on. I'm no VW whiz but it seems to me that low oil pressure or some kind of a short are about it for getting the light on.

You need to get the oil pressure checked using a good oil pressure gauge.

It not good using the engine if it has no oil pressure.

69 Beetle is the old air cooled engine.

I didn't know a VW that old had specs! Mine is a -69 Beetle sedan with a 1200cc engine. It's painted Aquarius Blue code LB5B & has a new interior, including a headliner that was immediately chewed up by mice.
