curious
hey guys im new to this site. i just have a question and i want to get your guys opinion. ok my girlfriend has a 2003 bug he car has 60000 miles on it and her warrenty expired at 50000 i think. now her check engin light is on and its been for for about 3 months. people have told her to take i to like a jiffy lube place so they can just use that thing that tells you whats wrong with it i think it gives you some kind of numbers or something. my question is should she just take it there or should she take it to a dealershipand have them use that thing to give you the numbers of what ever is wrong with it? are those things all made the same or are they different.
Go to advance or auto zone. They can read AND clear the code. They can tell you what the code was for and won't try to rip you off for repairs.
Have them clear the code from the computer when they read it and wait to see if the check engine light (A.K.A. CEL) comes back on. If the CEL comes back on then have them read it again and if the problem is the same as last time then fix it. If not then it was a spurious CEL that was triggered and means nothing.
