When going forwards or backwards, my beetle continously beeps. When I stop,the beep stops.I don't havea manual, and it appears to have something to do with the convertible top. What's going on?

 

Could be....

Up at the roofline where the clock/temperature guage is, if you see a symbol for your car with the top down it means your roof is not closed properly.

I had this problem with ours and it can be traced to a faulty sensor, the car thinks the roof is still down, or not fully retracted.

Mine failed while still under warranty so I can't tell you how much it will cost to replace the sensor.

The Beep will only sound when the car is in motion.
