Default best, inexpensive basic sound system.

I have a 77' convertable superbeetle,it hasnt had a sound system for years, and since I was young, I reallly dont know where it went. But im going to get one installed, whats the best route to go. Im only 16, so nothing too expensive, under $300, but I want to get the most bang for my buck. I went to a local car company and they quoted me $275 for the basics(radio, cd, with 2 speakers) Suggestions?

Try.... www.crutchfield.com
They have a great choice of sound systems, i've
purchased from them and they come through.
The only problem, the beetle was built before all the
good systems came out, and it had a squak box radio and
one speaker in the dash, not much mounting room for anything else. You have to be careful where you drill for
screw holes, you could drill into items you don't want to
destroy, and it has happened many times at the dealer
where I worked.

Cool!
But on the passenger and drivers side there are places for speakers, bacically these two big empty holes .
Im not sure about the back but I know theres space in the front.

To the best of my knowledge there were no places in the
back for speakers, if you have a place on each side of the
dash your lucky, the earlier bugs only had one speaker and
it was on the left side between the speedometer and door.
And it was a 4' little job at that, the radios sound like tin
cans, what a thrill.

you can get 4 speakers in that car. i have 4 speakers in my 74 super beetle and my dad has the same in his 70 beetle. what you need to do is make a speaker deck for the trunk space behide the back seat. and you car buy kick panels from so cal that go up front for the other two speakers. as to what to get theres alot to choose from just depends on what you like and how much you want to spend.

Your correct, I forgot about the luggage space behind
the rear seat. That's a good place for some thumpers.
