Default Is a Beetle TDI a good idea?

Hi,

I'm new to Volkswagen and I'm looking at a 2006 Beetle TDI. I was told by a few that they had a lot of problems with them a couple years ago. My quetion is have they worked the bugs (no pun intended) out of it yet? I test drove one and they drive very nice, no to mention the 40+MPG would be real nice in times of outrageous gas prices. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Default RE: Is a Beetle TDI a good idea?

I[font="Arial"] own a 2004 Jetta Wagon with the 1.9 Engine. I average about 43 mpg driving up I-75 to Detroit going 78 mph. I have averaged 48-49 when traveling around 60-65 mph. I don't see why the beetle would have any differant MPG rating . It is a smaller vehicle unless the transmission is differant, which I doubt. I have the manual 5 speed in mine. I know there is about 7-8 mpg differance in the Tiptronic Automatic Transmission. Something you might consider when buying this Vehicle! I feel VW has worked out the major Bugs in their last 3 model years! They also standed by any Re-Calls with NO PROBLEMS. I have no problems ever from my local dealer in Monroe, MI. Good Luck, drive a cheaper Import first, then go back to the VW, I am sure you will be happier with the VW!
