99 2.0 Beetle Transmission fluid adding?
Is there any way to either check the amount of transmission fluid in a 2.0 beetle w/ auto or to add fluid to it. I hate this car and don't know how much longer I will keep it. But for now I am stuck with it. The wife loves it and we have had it for a few years now. Getting ready to put the 3rd, yes 3rd a/c in it and the transmission has had a slight leak for a long time. Trans is starting to slip a little sometimes on start off. I am not taking it to a garage for this again. I was just wondering if adding or checking the fluid is possible w/o pulling transmission. Thanks a lot for any help that you can be. Much appreciated.

As you know the transmission is a sealed unit with no dipstick. The bottom plug is the level-check plug. The transmission must be at 95 to 113 degrees F to get a good check. This is aboutfive minutes of running a cold engine. You should get some drips out of the check plug. If not, it is low, if a steady stream it is overfilled. It is filled by adding fluid after removing the fill plug on the side. This can be pryed off with a screwdriver. (remember to clean it before putting it back) If you want to add fluid use a new brake fluid squeeze bulb and it won't be a messy job.
