Default '73 Super Beetle

Hello, I'm brand new here. I've never given VW's a second thought until a friend of the family asked me to sell his son's bright yellow '73 super bug on Ebay. I'm becoming enamored with that little car of his... It has new tires, brakes, newly rebuilt motor, new exhaust system...a few small rust spots bubbling up under the paint. The interior could use a little attention but it comes with a CD player. He's asking $2000. Is this reasonable? What sort of things should I look for on this car? I plan to use this car for a 25 mile freeway commute to work but my parents think I'm nuts taking it on Detroit's freeways. Any thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks.

i drive mine in chicago, no heat. but you can adapt. rust issues are in the under belly the tub gets rusty and causes problems.seats aare expensive but can be rebuilt for little money. if you need to buy the extra foam padding kit, they are nice on the butt. originally there was horse hair.interior door panels are easy and inexpensive.maintenance is easy buy a manual and diy, good luck,

oh yeah 2000 is a fair price for a car that looks decent and runs well
