Default 67 Beetle Starter

I have a 1967 Beetle (German Spec) so the electrical system is 6V. I have a replacement starter, but I can't seem to figure out how to remove the old starter. I can see and remove the lower nut, but when I feel the upper nut, it doesn't feel like one (smooth edges). I don't know how to accessto remove the bolt.

Any ideas?[sm=sigh.gif]

Default RE: 67 Beetle Starter

The upper bolt is the engine bolt on the right side,
it bolts the engine to the tranny and it also holds the
starter. Raise the hood and feel behind the fan housing on
the right (passenger) side, Take the 17mm nut off and
the bolt will slide out with the starter. We would put a
little glue on the bolt head when we put the starter back
on. that wouldhold the bolt in place while we reinstalled \
the nut on the engine side.
