Default '66 Bug Help

Ok so I have a '66 bug that I am working on and i have a few questions.
I am redoing the dash board and I don't like the pull out ***** that are used for emergence lights and all that. I would like to have them switches instead, but I am not so handy with electrical work. Another thing I would like to do is somehow add an input jack to a stereo I bought a while back, other then buying a new one with an iPod input or something.
One last question, I am going for a nice clean look, the only problem I am having is with the front hood handle, it is to "out there" for my taste and dose not fit with the rest of the car. Is there any other kinda of handle or any other way to have the hood lock without having a handle showing?
Thank You!

i have seen people shave the hadle off
you need to weld the under side to the hood then repaint it

That sounds good, only one question, when I go to weld it would I have to worry about the current from the welder messing up any of the other wiring or any of that? If so then how could I keep that from happening, disconnect the battery or something? First time welding on a car, just want to make sure I don't mess anything up.
