Default 71 bug NO POWER, HELP?

I just bought a 71 bug with a dual port 1600 and it has no guts and won't even idle right. When going up hill it totally dogs out and has no power. Is this a carbuetor problem or??

if it is on hills i would say that you might have a problem with dirt or maybe some float problem. i would give the carb a good nice cleaning and see where that puts you at.

try getting some injector cleaner, also, if you have very lil fuel passing through the injectors, it's hard to go fast, also you should really tune it the best you can, adjust the idle if needed, but it's usually a last resort. Remember it's old, and the motor has prolly never been overhauled. Be careful and reserach every maintenance procedure before you do it..
