Default 2001 Beetle starting problem

Good morning, I recently bought my daughter a 2001Beetle with the turbo in. Yesterday she went out to go to school and it would not start. The engine cranks over but it won't fire. I went out when I got home from work and tried to start it. I got it to start after a couple of key turns and some pumps of the gas pedal, but after turn it off and restarting it two more times the car failed to start again. I am leaning towards a possible fuel filter or fuel pump issue, but seeing as how I am not very familiar with these cars I thought I toss the problem out to you folks and see what kind of feed back you might provide.

Thank you all for your time and any help you may be able to provide.

Can you contact the previous owner, is that why he sold it?

Its very hard to diagnose vehicle problems on the web as we can't see the vehicle and only rely of users description.

A 2001 Beetle with a turbo doesn't tell us much, is that petrol or diesel and which engine.

You don't say where you live is that a secret?

I will guess USA, if you can get it going take it to AutoZone they will do a free ecu scan for any error codes logged.
