1974 Beetle Clutch problems?

I own a 1974 vw beetle and it is grinding when I try to put it into reverse and am having difficulties with shifting. It is very hard to shift. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem on my 74' However reverse and 2nd seem easy. Im new to this
