Default 1600cc engine knock

I have a 1973 beetle. I rebuilt the engine and I started it for the first time. It started knocking on the #4 cylinder. I took it apart and checked the bearing and found it had .006 clearance on the bearing. It did not knock before I changed the bearings. why would it start to knock now? Please help me!! I want my bug to run again.
