Default 1300 beetle engine

hi
my friend has a beetle with a duel port 1300 engine in it, which unfortunatley is dead.

He has been offered a 1300 single port engine, will it fit and work the same as his old one? are they roughly the same power etc?

cheers

volkswagen never made a duel port 1300, someone added duel port heads to a 1300. as far as putting the single in.. of course.. all stock came single port.. you will have to change the manifold to a single port though. there is a minimal power difference.

The 1300 engine was a 1965. I have heard that some 1300 and 1500 made in Europe did in fact have dual port heads and were being imported in the 60's. If the heads are truely dual port made for the 1300 engine, I would be interested in purchasing them for a 40 horse I am building. There is not much difference in the power between single and dual port although the dual port application has better flow. If you are buying a complete 1300 single port engine they will certainly interchange. Hope this helps.........Stephen....... Note : Okrasa also built some high dollar dual port heads for the old 1200, 1300 application. These heads are obvious as they have Okrasa embossed in the head itself.[&:][8D]
