1996 VR6 Passat 5 speed repair or for parts
For sale 1996 VW Passat VR6, 2.8L 5 speed. This car is a great driver, but currently needs some work.
The good:
Strong engine with only 135+K miles. Clutch, transmission everything solid. Fully loaded model. Leather, 6CD changer, heated seats, moon roof etc. Recent repairs include new distributor, new air intake boot, antifreeze leak repairs, new oil sensor. Body is free of rust and in good condition. This car went up and down to Canada just last summer with no problem - still drives great. Complete maintenance records for this car from about 60K
The current problems:
New antifreeze leak, looks like it is hose. Leak around heating core. Fluids leaking unto core lead to vapor blowing into cabin when heater is on. Parts for this job are about 120 US if core needs to be replaced, but it might just be a leaking hose - in any case it is more about the labor than the parts if you can do the job. Also a leaking water pump it seems. Car also has some cosmetic issues which are model related - headlining is hanging and leather is torn on driver's seat.
Car is drivable, never overheated and will not overheat as long as you keep adding fluid.
Have a newer passat was planning to sell this one before leaks happened. Do not want to invest more into it, looking to get $1000 for it. The engine is worth it. Car is located in Delaware. Mail me with questions.
