Default '92 Volkswagen 2 door convertible can't start?

Its a front wheel drive, 4 cylinder engine. The problem originally starter when driving to pick up some friends. The car all of a sudden, lost the headlights and the engine died soon after. Now it can't start. The motor won't turn over, no clicking under the hood, fuses look good, battery connections good, charged battery, wiring looks good, My thoughts is that its a computer problem. The interior lights come on in the car and you can hear the fuel pump kick in when the key is turned but nothing other than that. The belts are all on, all the wires look good.

I'm okay when it comes to fixing older mechanical vehicles but its the newer computer controlled cars that I get lost when it comes to diagnosing.

Thanks.

I'd have the battery tested and sometimes they test good but don't work. For some reason this is common on VW's it happened to me too.
