Newbie and looking for TDI info!!!
Hi everyone, I am new to this site. I am an active member of vrodforums.com. I know everything there is to know about Harley-Davidson v-rods. I know vrodforums is a great site for newbies to find out more about their bike then they ever could through dealers, magazines....etc. I am hoping this site is like that with VW's.
I am in the market for a 1998-2002 tdi. I don't care if it is beetle, golf or jetta. It will likely have over 100k cuz I am olny spending about 10K. I know some of you guys have posted over and over problems with certain vehicles, just like I have with newbies to the v-rod site, so please bare with me.
What things should I look for or be concerned about? I have already gathered that timing belt maintenance is crucial, because of that I am assuming it is an interference engine if it breaks. What other inheirant problems or services can I expect for this powertrain. Also I have heard of electrical bugs on the beetle. Would you steer me towards any other platform more then the other. The problems won't scare me away from the car so let me have it. I just want to be informed.
I will be getting one soon and plan on being an active member. I do all my own maintenance and repair so I am sure your data base and knowledge will come in handy.
Thanks,
Ray
