Default New to VW Forum long time VW Guy

Hey, old guy here. Started working on air cooled Bugs, Buses and Type 3's in 1968 at a Dealer that has disappeared off the face of the planet. Own 3 Volkswagen cars. 1962 113 Sedan, 2000 2.0 Golf and 2004 1.8 l Passat. All of them worn a bit (all over 100K) Looking for a newer Passat. Looking at one (2018) but I found out it has a Asin (NTJ option code?) transmission. Now I'm sure that Japan makes a fine transmission but I would like to have a DSG in my personal vehicle. Do any of the USA manufactured Passats have these transmissions? If so does anyone have the production code for the Direct Shift Gearbox? The ENG/TRANS: code line of the Passat I'm looking at reads 125KW A6F CPR NTJ. I know where to find the information but I have been retired too long to have the information I would like to use.

Welcome to the forum.

Its nice to see you made an intro on your own.

Manufacturer: VW, Date(s) Used: 08/2015-07/2017, Model: Passat/4MotionVariant, Engine Code: CPRA, 125Kw, 170PS, 1.8 Ltr, 4 Cyls, Remarks: Turbo Fuel Stratified Injection (TFSI)

You need to find the transmission/gearbox code of the data sticker. Please tell us your car spec in your signature

That engine code is missing a letter.

DSG build code is PPY, Asin build code is NTJ. Both are 6 speed transmissions. The DSG is a three shaft dual clutch electronically shifted gear change manual while the Asin uses a torque converter.

My current ride (RSX-S with 170K miles) is getting long in the tooth and it's time to move on to something a bit more family friendly with an automatic transmission so the wife can drive it. (Also, I drive ~45 min each way for work through horrible Seattle freeway traffic, so yup, time for an auto.)

Narrowed down to mainly the following 3 choices (based on 3 requirements ~$20k, nice combination of fun/practical, reliable):
1) 2012 VW GTI w/ DSG 12k miles

2) New Kia Forte5 shareit https://get-vidmateapk.com

3) 2012 VW TDI w/ DSG 60k miles

Always been in love with the GTI, but have heard enough horror stories to be a bit worried about owning a VW. It's an off-lease 2012 with only 12k miles and about 2.5 years left of power train warranty, and seems likely I can get it for about $20k, which seems to be a dang good deal.

Feel free to use my message about Passat transmission codes and discriptions on your forum. The information is accurate for the year discribed US built vehicles. 1968apprentice.
