Hey i was wondering what you guys thought about this. My room mate has a 98 passat, black, cloth int. v6, auto. The body has some minor rust spots but overall is pretty clean. It supposly needs a new engine. Very low compression is what he told me. He basically knows nothing bout cars. he said he would take 1k for itHe paid 1200, ( his x told him that all it needed was a new waterpump, so the idiot he is had them put a new waterpump and timing belt in. costed him about 1k. Then later to find out that there was very ;little compression in the first three cyl.,,, now he just wants to bail). It has 141k on it. was wondering if I should buy it. I have fair knowledge, when it comes to working on car, going to school for it now, I've done a clutch and flywheel, before, exhaust work, pulleys, ecu's, and suspension upgrades to my vr4.. But when it comes to engine sawps don't really have a clue. Has anybody done a swap on a 98 passat??any est. on the skill level? looking for an exact drop in engine.(code)???. dont car bout performance just a solid engine at a descent price. Input???
