Question Hood Sensor on 2005 Touareg

Hello Everyone. I need some assistance please and I have a couple of questions. I've been here before and received some great advice before; I thought I would try again. I went to get an oil change today and I went to a "shop" where I had some engine work done on my Touareg before. I have a 2005 Touareg. Instead of going to my normal spot to get an oil change (Jiffy Lube) I thought I would start going to the "shop." All these years since I've had my Touareg, nothing ever happened with my hood sensor but the 1 day I didn't go to Jiffy Lube my sensor comes on and won't go off! I'm just a little aggravated and was wondering if the hood was opened incorrectly, would this be the cause of the sensor malfunctioning? The manager/owner of the "shop" came out to inspect my car with the mechanic who did the oil change and I was told that I now need a new sensor! I was told that my hood is closed shut and it won't open unless I pull the release for it but to just ignore the warning light until I'm able to get a new sensor installed. Really . . . has anyone had any issues with the hood sensor and if so how did you fix it and was it expensive? Is it okay to ignore the warning light on the dashboard? Thank you in advance for your suggestions.

Welcome to the forum.

Its nice to see you made an intro on your own.

Bonnet/Hood Switch (F266) Bonnet Contact Switch (F266) do go faulty. You can Google for a new one or I could search ETKA for the part numbers.

Please tell us your car spec in your signature

Hi Keith!

Thanks for responding; I was a little frustrated because all I wanted/needed was an oil change and now a bonnet/hood switch!! I did a search at Parts Geek - Discount Auto Parts; here's what I found.

Genuine Hood Latch Lower # W0133-1974231 - $100.48. (I wasn't able to find a hood switch/hood sensor; I think this is the only part I need.)

ETKA shows:

Micro switch - 7L0 953 236 B - £34.70
Lid lock with micro switch - 7L0 823 509 C - £64.88

Google these part numbers.

Smile Thanks Keith!

I did a search for both parts and will print them out to take to my mechanic; just to be sure these are the parts I need before I order. Thank you again for all your help; I greatly appreciate it!

It your mechanic has VAG-COM\VCDS he can check the bonnet/hood switch out, and do a AutoScan for any fault codes. a 2005 Touareg I don't think a dealer will stock the switch you may have to order on. Ask them t check the correct part number?

Unhappy

Thank you; you have been a great help. I will make sure the mechanic check which part/parts I need before I order anything.

I think there may be another issue now too -- my windshield wipers do not work properly. It's raining here and when I turned on the wipers, I had to turn the setting all the way up before any movement. I doubt if the hood sensor has anything to do with the wipers, right? I just don't understand this -- all I went in for was an oil change!!!!! Now my wipers don't work unless the setting is turned up high -- unbelievable . . . .

Have you checked the fuses for the wipers? I only have a fuse & relay layout for 2012 Touareg BlueMotion 3.0 TDI-CR. I'm not sure if your 2005 Touareg has the Rain and Light Recognition Sensor (RLS) (G397 behind the interior mirror which later models have.

You need to get your motor scanned (preferably with VAG-COM\VCDS) for any error codes logged in the ecu and post them, that will save a lot of guessing.

Ok I've had a look at ElsaWin.

2005 Touareg 2.5 TDI R5 128 TDIAG6 7LAA1, BAC - 174PS, EXN GLC GZH HAN HZY JXT - 6A

It does have Rain and Light Recognition Sensor (RLS) (G397)

If you want a fuse & relay layout Volkswagen Touareg fuse box diagram (2005-2010) » Fuse Diagram

There are fuses for the wipers front and rear.
