Default Fuel efficiency

Any insight on how to increase the fuel efficiency on a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta with a 2.0L L4 SOHC 8V engine. Just purchased the vehicle and it has 209k Mike's on it. Mechanically it's pretty sound but the fuel efficiency sucks. I can fill the tank and I only use it to go to work and back so about 140 miles round trip. I have changed the oil and stuck new spark ugs in. Anything I can do. Thanks in advance

Thank you. I will try and get what info on the car I can get. Like I said I'm new to the vw and not sure where to find all the specs.
