Default VW Golf 1.4 engine management light

Hi everyone, my names Adam, nicknamed Adz. I'm 20 years old and recently put a deposit down for a VW Golf 1.4. The problem is I got a call from the dealer and he mentioned that the golf's engine management light had come on and for 3 weeks they have been testing out what could be wrong. I had a car data check on the car which came back normal and the cr is running fine. VW themselves are baffled aswell as the dealer's mechanics as they have done absolutely every solution and this light just wont turn off. I typed on the internet before about this problem and it suggested that its a fault in the emissions system. I was wondering if anyone would have any advice to help me as I'm not an expert with car problems lol.

how many miles are on the car? i know when the check engine light came on in my lincoln, it was either a bad cat or a egr code being thrown.

Thanks for your reply. Currently the car had done about 69,000 miles but I ended up buying it last week as it turned out to be the cams (mechanical fault) where everyone was checking for the electrical problems. they shown me at the garage that when they took the cams out the wall was all scratched and eroded so they replaced that plus the timing belt which saved me some cash and the car is running fine and the engine light comes on as i start the car but goes off. (I know some dealers could have just taken out the bulb.)
